Privacy Policy

Your privacy is critically important to us.

  • We don’t ask you for personal information unless we truly need it.
  • We don’t share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law, develop our Registry, or protect our rights.
  • We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for the ongoing operation of one of our services.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Cleveland Artist Registry (CAR) collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. CAR’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how CAR’s visitors use its website. From time to time, CAR may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

CAR also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments. CAR only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to CAR choose to interact with CAR in ways that require CAR to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that CAR gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for an account with CAR to provide a username and email address. In each case, CAR collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with CAR. CAR does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Aggregated Statistics

CAR may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. For instance, CAR may monitor the most hired Artist(s).  CAR may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, CAR does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Information We Collect from Other Sources

With your authorization, we may also obtain information about you from other sources. For example, if you create or log into your CAR account through a social media service (like Google) or if you connect your website or account to a social media service, we will receive information from that service (such as your username, basic profile information, and friends list) via the authorization procedures used by that service. The information we receive depends on which services you authorize and any options that are available.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

CAR discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on CAR’s behalf, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. CAR will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, CAR discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when CAR believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of CAR, third parties or the public at large. If you are a registered user of CAR and have supplied your email address, CAR may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with the Registry. We may use feedback, such as success stories, for marketing purposes, or, with your permission, to contact you for further feedback on the site.

If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. CAR takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. CAR uses cookies to help identify and track visitors and their usage of CAR.  CAR visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using CAR, with the drawback that certain features may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

Children

We do not specifically collect information about children and our site is not intended for use by children without parental consent and supervision. We believe that children should get their parents' consent before giving out personal information. If you are concerned about your child's use of our site, we encourage you to use Web filtering technology to supervise your child's access to the site.

Information for artists

By submitting your contact information and/or worksamples, you agree that we may display this information on our website, and you understand that we can accept no responsibility for any use of your material or contact information made by other users of the site.  All information submitted by artists can be viewed by users of the site, either by completing a search or in the case of fields not displayed on profiles, by request.  Artists may change or update information or be removed from the Registry through their personal login.
