Bio: Yvonne Bakale was born in Cleveland, OH. She is a graduate of Cleveland State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts with a concentration in both printmaking and painting. Her work has been shown locally and regionally. Yvonne currently works from her home studio in Middleburg Heights, OH.

Artist’s Statement: This current series of work reflects my love of nature and geometry. There is an old willow bush in my yard that is a resource for dried arrangements, basket-making, and interesting leaf patterns. Many of its leaves have been preyed upon by insects whose only evidence is a lacy filigree left behind. I have made prints of these leaves onto washi (rice paper) and I have used them as collaged elements within the framework of a simple diagonal design. Although formalist concerns are my main objective the subtext of renewal and revival are apparent.
