I believe a photograph is created when distraction is taken away. Unlike other art forms where things are added to a blank space, a photograph is created when we remove distractions from our point of view. My work is focused on creating images of architecture, sculptures and natural elements in a realist and abstract manner. I customarily employ digital editing and manipulation in my work to invoke a specific feeling and to further reduce distraction.
When my photos are manipulated digitally either minimal or extensive, I find a deeper connection and meaning to the piece. I’m inspired by everyday scenery from buildings and sculptures to unique colors and textures on a wall. I love the challenge of taking mundane subjects and creating something interesting. My background in graphic design has trained my eyes into seeing shapes, balance and contrast in my photography.
