My name is Juniper M Mainelis, and I am an artist, singer-songwriter, and poet. I enjoy creating imagery inspired by mystical and imaginative themes, and I often describe my work as a sacred journey to open the portals of the imagination and self-healing. This genre is called Visionary or Medicine painting. Using a process called Intentional Creativity, in which I am also a certified teacher, I create sacred space in my studio to enhance my ability to tune in to inspiration. Setting an intention, I hold the paintbrush while visualizing it as a sort of magic wand. Every stroke and mark become permeated with my thoughts, prayers, and visions. My process stirs up emotions and even old wounds that are ready to be healed. Sometimes my painting is charged with tears and laughter. Whatever I’m feeling and thinking gets incorporated into the composition and becomes saturated into the very fibers of the canvas. This technique combined with intention, opens the door to my imaginary world, and there is a lot more going on in the underlayers than you can see. Sometimes segments of the layers still show, but even if they aren’t visible, they’re still there and can be felt because I have infused the canvas with my intentions! Many have described my imagery as a visual-elixirs, invoking conversation, inquiry, and inspiration for the viewer.
I mostly work in acrylic, and believe the world needs more imagery of empowered women! Often my paintings persuade me to write songs and poetry about them.
