Artist’s Statement

You’re sitting in a waiting room leafing through a magazine and discover random pages missing, parts of pages ripped away, and you wonder who would do this? This is officially my confession.
If I see the perfect image I need for a collage, I will ravage without guilt. I must have it.

I grab extra bags from stores so I can pick up rusty found objects discarded in snow banks to glue on a canvas.

My life drawings are translated into fabric and thread on old, dusty burlap bags.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawn to seek out abandoned objects in second hand stores, fascinated with their history and latent qualities that may be developed and lead to future success in an unrealized form.

The rearranged reality with these assembled moments communicate the energy and beauty that gradually emerge with the stacks of re-purposed, vintage magazines that I breathe new life into. My collage art evolves over time, like a puzzle, the process unfolding with each decision that
eventually defines the composition.

Paper, fabric, shredded cardboard, lacey textures and Saturday Evening Post magazines from the 30’s create an unexpected beauty that transitions with time. They are liberated from their original context and re-purposed anew.
